Mid-winter visit, dugong showed up after 10 minutes. The seagrass meadows are stunning.

A wide sheltered bay just north of Port Ghalib with extensive Halophila and Halodule seagrass meadows — exactly the habitat dugongs need. Several adult dugongs visit the bay regularly to feed, alongside resident green turtles and the occasional eagle ray patrolling the sandy channels.

Depths stay between 3 and 18 m and currents are negligible, so this is the easiest of the dugong sites for new divers and snorkelers.

Dugong House lives up to the name. We saw two dugongs in the same dive and a green turtle on the safety stop.

Bring a wide-angle lens. The dugong stayed with us for 8 minutes and the photo opportunities were endless.

The Red Sea's most consistent dugong site, paired with shallow reefs.
