Marsa Mubarak Diving

Marsa Mubarak is a sheltered bay just south of Port Ghalib, with wide seagrass meadows, a sandy bottom, and a small coral pinnacle near the entrance. It is calm and shallow, which makes it both an easy dive and the best-known site on the coast for a chance of seeing a dugong.

What the dive is like

Dives are shallow and gentle, usually drifting slowly over the seagrass and around the pinnacle. The bay is a nursery of activity: seahorses and pipefish in the grass, schooling fish around the coral, and turtles grazing alongside the seagrass beds.

Dugong and other sightings

Marsa Mubarak is one of the most reliable Red Sea sites for dugong, but they are rare, wild, and never guaranteed - some weeks they are seen often, other weeks not at all. We keep a respectful distance and never chase or crowd them. Green turtles, rays, and guitar sharks are also regular here.

Who it suits

Shallow and protected, Marsa Mubarak suits beginners, training dives, and snorkelers, as well as photographers after slow, shallow seagrass dives. It pairs naturally with Abu Dabbab for a gentle two-bay day.

Safety and sea conditions

Dugongs and turtles are protected wild animals - we follow marine park rules, keep our distance, and never block their path to the surface. The bay is sheltered, but wind and visibility still shape the plan.

Frequently asked questions

Will I see a dugong at Marsa Mubarak?

Marsa Mubarak is one of the better sites for dugong, but they are rare and wild, so sightings are never guaranteed. Patience, an early start, and calm behaviour help.

Is Marsa Mubarak suitable for beginners?

Yes. It is shallow and sheltered, which makes it a good beginner, training, and snorkeling site.

Can snorkelers see the seagrass and turtles?

Yes. The shallow seagrass is well suited to snorkeling, and snorkelers regularly see turtles and, occasionally, a dugong.

How close can we get to a dugong?

We keep a respectful distance and let the animal set the terms. Crowding or chasing is not allowed and pushes them away.
